Is renewing early worth it?

.run goes from $22.14 to $27.00 a year at Porkbun on 2026-10-06 — 45 days away. ICANN’s Base Registry Agreement (§2.10(b)) obliges the registry to sell your registrar up to ten years at the pre-increase price right up to that moment, so the lock is real rather than a loophole.

This is a prepayment, not a discount. Registry fees are non-refundable and do not follow a domain you sell, so prepaid years only save money on domains you would have renewed anyway — the third figure is the point where the trade stops being a loss. The ten-year cap runs from today, not from when you registered, so a domain with three years left can add at most seven. §2.10(b) fixes what your registrar pays the registry; it does not oblige your registrar to pass the saving on, and a registrar that has already repriced saves you nothing. Premium and legacy-tier names are excluded from uniform renewal pricing and can behave differently. Figures ignore the ICANN fee, tax, and what your money could earn elsewhere.

Renewing a domain you already own cannot be linked to from outside — it needs your account session — so those links open each registrar's own page for .run. Moving to a cheaper registrar is a transfer, which extends the expiry you already have by one year at the new registrar's price. It is normally blocked for 60 days after registration and after a previous transfer. None of these links earns this site anything today — see disclosure.
